Retirees Find New Purpose and Impact Thousands
Local organization, Kingdom Mobilization of Estero, FL, is helping retirees find their second wind and make a global impact.
In the past few years over five hundred people have traveled to over twenty-five countries to discover the huge needs of people in these developing nations. Over twenty-five million dollars have been donated through over one hundred non-profit organizations to help meet these needs. Also, several new non-profit organizations have been started by those who have discovered their life purposes.
After returning from another trip to a developing nation in the spring of 2002, Nolen Rollins was compelled by what he had seen to do something. The poverty and needs of people abroad, in light of the wealth in Southwest Florida, led Mr. Rollins to begin Kingdom Mobilization January 1, 2003.
The mission of Kingdom Mobilization is to help individuals discover and engage in their life purposes. “There are hundreds of people in Southwest Florida who have discretionary time and resources who can change the world,” says Mr. Rollins. When challenged to use their expertise and resources these individuals are eager to make a difference according to Mr. Rollins.
For example, Mr. Doug Ballinger founded Help the Least of These, Inc. to deal with the extreme poverty in Kibera, a large slum area in Nairobi, Kenya. Mr. Ballinger, and others he has enlisted in this new venture, are building an orphanage, providing for the education of young children, supplying vitamins and health care for the slum residents, and beginning a micro business loan program.
Several other leaders travel to the Caucasus Region of Russia twice a year to train hundreds of university students in the basic principles of free market enterprise in this former Communist country. Still others have set up a training center for children in the slums of Rio, Brazil to teach the children English, computer skills, and leadership skills to better prepare them for the future.
All in all, over one hundred of these individuals who have been enlisted and challenged by Kingdom Mobilization are now engaged in several organizations that are having a major impact all around the world.
“We do this primarily through personal coaching, regular small group meetings, and occasional larger events,” says Mr. Rollins. “We help people discover their strengths, passions, and abilities and how to use their life experiences in helping others.” Kingdom Mobilization has monthly luncheons where someone shares their personal “success to significance” journey. The primary curriculum for this mobilization movement is a book written by Mr. Rollins entitled, "The GPS Life Journey."
